James Lawrence Spinks is the Founding Partner at Spinks Law Group. Before becoming a lawyer, James was employed as an insurance claims professional, where he became interested in disputed insurance claims and litigation. In this capacity, he was able to attend multiple civil trials, and he was responsible for handling multi-line claims, first-party and third-party losses, including automobile/transportation, construction defects, general liability, bond/surety, premises liability, and more. This work and experience gave James great insight and the ability to analyze claims and insurance policies from a unique perspective. It also provided him with a wealth of experience in dealing with individuals and businesses in times of distress and great need. James’ experience in high-stakes negotiations and claim evaluations is unparalleled.
Upon completing law school, James transitioned from the insurance business into civil defense practice with a local mid-size law firm. In this role, James worked alongside excellent attorneys and clients to become a partner in 2021. In his career, James has served countless clients at all levels of state and Federal Courts, including all levels of appellate courts.
In 2022, James decided to take the plunge from being one of twelve partners to starting his own practice; the Spinks Law Group was formed. Since then, additional attorneys and staff have joined, and the firm continues to grow.
As an attorney, James uses his knowledge, experience, and training to dig in the trenches and discover the angle in each case that will strategically place his clients in a position to prevail or obtain the best possible result under the circumstance. His mantra is to be intentional from the beginning of every relationship he forms and every case he takes to ensure the best chance of success for the people and businesses he represents.
James appreciates the value of hard work, as it was instilled in him early on by his parents. His father, a truck driver, and his mother, who ran a small family-owned grocery business, were dedicated to their careers and families.
James is married and has two children. His hobbies include golfing, coaching, participating in youth sports with his two young sons, traveling with his family, and cheering on his Alma Mater, Auburn (War Eagle!). He is also very active in volunteering through his church.
